Annuums + baccatums sownSeason 2010

More sowing took place today - sweet peppers and some annuum hot peppers + a few baccatums were sown...

First one up!Season 2010

Posted by Johnny N. Olsen Sat, February 20, 2010 14:46:49

Today, after 6 days, the first seedling of the season appeared - one out of fifteen seeds of my own complex cross ((Pequin de Ischia x Naga Morich F2) x Pimenta Morango) has sprouted, unfortunately, the seed cap seems to be stuck, but I hope to be able to get it off if I squeeze it gently when moist and soft... Update: "operation was a complete success"smiley

Also "Chinense Peloso" (Furry Chinense) has popped out of the ground...

Chinense + pubescens in the groundSeason 2010

Posted by Johnny N. Olsen Tue, February 16, 2010 12:59:32

Sunday 14th the chinense and pubescens varieties were put in the ground and today the last chinense arrived - "Aji Yellow" from Peppermania which seems to be a yellow, larger version of Aribibi Gusano. They are placed at 20-22 degr. C. This upcoming weekend annuums and baccatums will be started.

Chiltepin Sonoran Orange is aliveSeason 2010

Posted by Johnny N. Olsen Sat, January 23, 2010 11:34:33

In 2009 I received seeds for this wild variety from John F. (thanks a lot) - he said that it unexpectedly turned out to be orange and that he did not know whether it would be stabile, so I guess we will find out this year...smiley

Six days ago I sowed all 11 seeds in two small pots and placed them on my radiator at around 25-28 degrees Celsius (77-82 F), today 4 seeds emerged and I bet their friends will join soon...

They will be grown in small pots outdoors and a couple will be grown in a greenhouse in a shady position.

Varieties 2010Season 2010

Posted by Johnny N. Olsen Sat, January 16, 2010 10:29:52

So, varieties for the 2010 season has been planned - in fact the list has been made and revised about a dozen of times, but this has got to stop now...smiley So here are the players of 2010...

http://www.malusrustica.dk/capsicum/growyears/2010/capsicum2010.htm

Besides growing my own crosses, I will be growing a lot of Jalapeño varieties and chinense varieties to find a few favourites...

Sowing of seeds will begin mid-late February, but I may start Chiltepin Sonoran Orange in january, since germination may be erratic.

Germination...Season 2009

Posted by Johnny N. Olsen Sun, March 01, 2009 18:57:24

Two varieties failed to germinate among the chinense-varieties - my interspecific cross "Pequin de Ischia x Aribibi Gusano" + plus a strain of 7 Pot - luckily I have three other strains of 7 Pot that germinated just fine...

Last Sunday, a week ago, I sowed all pubescens, baccatum and annuum varieties, they are placed at around 20 degr. C. - none of them have surfaced yet... Yesterday I received and immediately sowed a very interesting sweet pepper named "Doe Hill Pepper" from USA, should be very early and prolific...
